ultra laser

and we're back

i don’t know why pc’s get such a bad rap for being needlessly complex and hard to get working; i know it used to be that way?  but seriously; i borrowed ryan’s wireless usb dongle, put in the install cd, plugged in the device, and a minute later was automatically connected to scott’s covenant battle-net.  no trouble at all.  at this point i put two discs into my drive to get my computer back up and working, and the other one was the xp install disc.

having the system auto-load to 800x600 was amusing, given i’ve been running 1280x1024 for a couple years now.

true, i still need to get windows update logged back in and pull down service pack 3, and some firefox extensions (videodownloader vs youtube videos and nuke anything enhanced vs youtube comments), and the newest itunes, but i had installers already for firefox 3 and an older itunes, which took about a minute to re-import my library.  (it was in the exact same place, after all…)

seriously; backups and ghosting aside, if you can swing keeping all of your data on a seperate hard drive, that’s the only way to fly.  if anything goes wrong you can just renew the whole thing and start over.
